Recently, my husband, myself and some friends hiked up Lanikai Pillbox Trail to catch the sunrise and boy was it worth waking up at 4am! The hike itself wasn't tough at all, although it got 27 week pregnant me panting at times for sure. It didn't take long to get to the top either and the panoramic view was absolutely breathtaking. The hike features two military bunkers and overlooks Lanikai beach as well as the Mokes and you could see out all the way to Kaneohe bay. I think the best time to hike this trail is early in the morning before dawn to catch the sunrise since it's not as hot yet and you get the view of a lifetime! Also, you can visit the gorgeous Lanikai beach right after for a cooling off swim. This hike was definitely something I very much enjoyed doing and luckily, my husband brought along his GoPro so I can share the experience with you guys. On the windward side of Oahu is a 1/2 mile strip of beach named Lanikai Beach. This beach is not only ranked among the best beaches in the world, but the word "Lani kai" translates to "heavenly ocean", and it is true to its word! Once you park along the streets of Lanikai, you can access the beach through public alley paths which run between gorgeous homes that have the beach as their backyard. When you walk out onto the beach, prepare to have your mind blown! The water is calm and quiet with the most perfect shade of crystal clear aqua. The sand is a dazzling white and soft as flour. The view doesn't end there, for you can see the famous Mokulua Islands which you can also kayak to if you dare explore. Once you've settled on the sand, you won't want to leave. Now be sure to pack your snorkeling gear for this is also one of the greatest places to spot the wonderful tropical fish that Hawai'i is known for, such as the humuhumunukunukuapua'a, also known as the reef triggerfish and is in fact the state fish of Hawai'i. Or you could simply be a beach bum (like I tend to be most of the time) and just sunbathe as you enjoy the view. One thing I know for sure; this is by far my favorite beach. So be sure to come and check it out the next time you are visiting Oahu! Here are some pictures from the many weekend visits to Lanikai beach... All photos taken by myself, my husband and my sisters.
